Re: Another Hammer gone
Condolences. Your post is further proof that West Ham and it’s community is something beyond most football clubs.

As dementia in the family impacts more and more of us understanding the strains and conflicts that are created is important. There are no easy answers. When my father in law passed a couple of years ago he had been very sick for many years. It was the onset of dementia in the final year that was most difficult for the family to grasp.

‘What they had’ is by no means a perfect movie but it’s worth a watch just to engage in the idea of how you and your family might manage a situation in the future.

Anyone born in the 1930's who is still with us deserves huge respect - they have seen a completely different world.

RIP your grandad.

Re: Another Hammer gone
Thank you everyone for the condolences and kind words. As some have said on here, those born in the 30's and 40's are a different breed. If it wasn't for the dementia he would have carried on well into his 90's.
I hope all of those who are seeing their loved ones suffer with this horrible disease get to see their beloved live as long as possible and I really do have so much sympathy for them.
Up the hammers

Re: Another Hammer gone
Condolences Steve and may your Grandad RIP. My Grandad finally succumbed to Dementia after 10 years, served in the RAF during BOB, didn't know his own wife in the end, worst thing that can happen to anyone. Was a Charlton supporter and his best mate was Millwall, favourite player was Harry Cripps, both tried to get me over there clubs, but my brother and I were having none of it, used to get Grandad (his Millwall mate didn't fancy it though LOL) over West Ham and he loved going.
